KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak has seized 255 units of nutritious chocolate malt drink suspected to be fake from three premises around the city here yesterday.
The raid was conducted following a complaint from a trademark owner and all of the seized units of the nutritious chocolate malt drink, along with several other business documents, were confiscated.
According to a press statement issued yesterday by Sarawak director of KPDN Matthew Barin Dominic, the estimated total value of the confiscated items was RM9,814.95.
“The case will be investigated under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademark Act 2019, which prohibits having in possession or under control for the purpose of trade any goods to which a registered trademark is falsely applied.
“If found guilty, a fine of up to RM10,000.00 may be imposed for each fake item bearing a falsely applied registered trademark or imprisonment for up to three years or both,” he said.
KPDN advises the public not to engage in activities of selling goods without the approval or consent of a legitimate registered trademark owner.
If anyone has any information regarding the sale of fake goods, they can report it to KPDN through various channels, including WhatsApp at 019-279 4317 / 019-848 8000, KPDN’s e-Complaint Portal at http://e.aduan.kpdn.gov.my, the call centre 1-800-886-800, email e-aduan@kpdn.gov.my, Ez ADU KPDN mobile application, or the Enforcement Operation Room at 03-8882 6088 / 6245.
