MUKAH: Heavy rain and strong winds caused a tree to fall onto a house in Kampung Tutus Ulu, here, Tuesday.

According to a son of the house owner, Nur Farizan Maulad Wasli, the incident occurred due to continuous heavy rain and strong winds starting from Tuesday afternoon until early this morning (Jan 17).

“Only the roof of the house was affected and the overall damage is not significant compared to if it had hit other parts of the house,” he told reporters at the scene.

He mentioned that the incident happened around 2 am when they heard a noise on the roof.

“However, due to the heavy rain and strong winds, I didn’t pay much attention, thinking it was just the wind.

“At 5 am, we realized that our neighbour’s tree had fallen in front of the house, but it only affected the roof,” he explained.

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Mukah and villagers collaborated to assist in removing the fallen tree.

He expressed gratitude to the APM and the many villagers who came to help in clearing the debris from the fallen tree.

He hoped that the authorities would conduct patrols and advise plant owners, especially if the trees are close to houses, to cut or trim them.

This is to prevent unwanted incidents, especially during the current windy and rainy season.
