KUCHING: A 25-year-old man decided to lodge a false police report after spending all the money he made for his online gambling boss on groceries.

To save himself from his boss’ wrath, the top up agent told the police he had fallen victim to a snatch thief and lost all his boss’ money.

However, the man broke down and confessed the truth when police interrogated him.

Now, the top up agent is in the soup — with his boss as well as the police.

Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said in a statement today (30 June), “The suspect’s reason for making a false report was because he had spent his employer’s money to buy groceries.

“The Investigating Officer has made a report for further investigation under Section 182 of the Penal Code.

“The suspect has been detained under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.”

In the fake report, the suspect claimed that he was approached by a snatch thief near McDonald’s Batu Kawa here. He said the thief fled with RM3,600 in cash.
