TAWAU: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) plans to have 29 more fresh fruit stalls (GBBS) throughout the country this year, said its chairman Ishak Ismail.
According to him, up to November last year there were 339 GBBS nationwide, and the total sales value was RM110 million.
“Two GBBS areas will be located in Melaka and three will be set up in Negeri Sembilan,” he said when met by reporters at Sabindo GBBS here on Thursday.
He added that Fama would also provide coaching to 10 GBBS operators and upgrade 14 existing GBBS with an allocation of RM960,000.
He said the objective was to improve on the stall display to make it more appealing to customers in efforts to help boost the operators’ income.
Ishak also said the GBBS stalls were introduced to address the problem of surplus fruits during the fruit season as well as to attract tourists.
He added that the fruits sold at the GBBS stalls had been graded and were of high quality. – Bernama
