SERIAN: The Malaysian Family Cheap Sales programme (JMKM) here proved to be a success, with 400 chickens selling out in less than an hour.

The programme, which was held for the first time in the Kedup state constituency, benefited more than 20,000 dwellers in the area.

As such, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that more necessities will be included in the programme the next time it is held here.

“I am very satisfied because today’s programme received a favourable response from the local folk.

“Since this is the first time this programme is held here, it was a little difficult for us to determine how many necessities we need to sell.

“Many basic necessities such as fish and chicken were sold in a short time. Next time, we will sell more of them here,” he said after officiating at the JMKM programme at Kampung Bunan Gega here on Sunday (Sept 18).

In addition to the allocation from the Ministry, the programme also received a contribution of RM10,000 from the local assemblyman Martin Ben.

Martin commended the initiative and said such a programme will continue to be held especially as Christmas approaches.

Martin who is also Deputy Minister II for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development said, about 15 villages within a seven -kilometre radius of Kampung Bunan Gega were involved in the sales programme on Sunday.

As of September 15, 2022, the Ministry’s Sarawak branch has implemented JMKM in 118 locations in 65 state assembly areas throughout Sarawak.

Previously named Malaysian Family Sales programme (PJKM), it recorded a total of 267,978 visitors and sales reached RM5.917 million from December 2021 to August 14, 2022.

The proud success, according to Nanta, is the number of visitors who benefited from the programme, not the sales value.

Meanwhile, when asked on the ministry’s preparations for the possibility of flood, he said the ministry is always ready.

“At the end of the year during the monsoon season, flooding is inevitable. It will happen in some places.

“A special committee has been established, at the ministry level has also outlined an action plan that will be taken to deal with the matter.

“The ministry needs to work with various parties from the grassroots level up to the state government to monitor the issue,” he said.
