SRI AMAN: Swift action of residents at Taman Pasir Panas here yesterday had probably saved a house from burning after a gas cylinder in the kitchen caught fire.
In the 8am incident, several residents of the housing estate were alerted to the fire which broke out at the kitchen of one of the houses. The residents quickly used two fire extinguishers to douse the fire before it could spread to the whole house. The kitchen was partly razed.
However, there were no casualties. The fire was caused by a leak in the cooking gas cylinder.
A spokesperson for the State Fire and Rescue Department said that a team of firefighters from the Sri Aman fire station was deployed to the scene after receiving the distress call.
The house was occupied by a family of six including a toddler.
