KUCHING: A family of six living in dire conditions continues to receive ongoing food aid from Hope Place Kuching.
A Hope Place volunteer who encountered Razuna Jamali and her children while visiting friends in their village brought the family’s situation to the attention of the non-governmental organisation (NGO).
Razuna lives in a dilapidated, flood-prone wooden house in Kampung Lintang Baru with her husband, Ramli, 45, and their four children, aged four to 17.
The family survives by planting vegetables, foraging for wild plants, and occasionally fishing in the nearby river. Razuna primarily uses firewood to cook their meals.
Her husband, Ramli, works as a daily-wage labourer, earning less than RM1,000 per month, while Razuna, who also works for daily pay, is employed at a bird’s nest factory.
Despite their hard work, most of their earnings go towards supporting their children.
Two of the children are still in school, while their grandmother looks after the younger ones when Razuna and Ramli are at work.
In a media statement, Hope Place expressed gratitude to its volunteers who compassionately help those in desperate need.
