KUCHING: The family’s of the heroic Mohamad Syafiq Ali Hanaffiah has expressed profound gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the assistance that will greatly ease their financial challenges.
Syafiq on Thursday (Jan 11) shared his feelings about the generous donation, stating he is grateful beyond words for this blessing; hopefully, it’s enough for his recovery process until fully healed.
“Grateful for the multitude of individuals who stepped forward to lend a helping hand and expressed concern for my situation. Words cannot capture the depth of my gratitude. I couldn’t wish for anything more. My heartfelt thanks to everyone.
“With the Premier’s aid and the compassionate backing from many, it serves as a driving force for me to remain resilient throughout the recovery journey. The doctor anticipates a 2-3 year timeline for me to regain the ability to walk,” he shared.
In light of his future aspirations, Syafiq expressed that he hasn’t formulated a concrete plan as uncertainty about what lies ahead prevails. However, his initial inclination is to persist in aiding those in need as his primary focus.
Syafiq’s enduring strength and patience throughout this formidable challenge, combined with his conviction in the potency of sincere assistance, showcase his indomitable spirit. Presently, he is undergoing physiotherapy, a pivotal phase in his path to recovery.
Detailing the physical impact of his injuries, Syafiq explained, “Throughout the recovery journey, my body experiences persistent soreness. I rely on painkillers consistently, as the pain becomes unbearable without them.
“The throbbing pain makes even simple tasks such as going to the bathroom challenging. The most agonising areas are my back and thighs due to substantial, open wounds.”
Syafiq expressed his thankfulness for the progress in the wound healing process, particularly with the care provided by certified Clinic Wound Care specialist and Clinical Advisor for Wound Rescue, Dr Sim Chap Hoong from Teddy Medical Bau.
In a similar development, Syafiq’s brother, 31-year-old Mohamad Syaaid Ali Hanafiah, through the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) was also granted a RM200 monthly aid recently.
Their mother, Julia Jemat, reveals that Syaaid is grappling with health issues, and there is a possibility of a diagnosis of nerve cancer. His struggles with walking demand continuous assistance, and his ongoing medical treatments involve periodic physiotherapy to manage occasional pain.
“Following this, my intention is to have Syaaid undergo a comprehensive Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan to identify the underlying cause of his illness, as it could potentially be nerve cancer. The doctor has mentioned that a complete recovery may not be possible, and the symptoms could persist indefinitely,” she explained.
Julia also has outlined plans to use the Premier’s aid to purchase essential items for Syafiq, including a device for lifting heavy objects, a wheelchair, a portable air conditioner, and other necessities.
“If there are additional funds, I’d like to contribute them to Syafiq’s Hajj fund, as his aspiration is to undertake Umrah. He intends to bring his family along for the Umrah journey. With the grace of God, any surplus money will be included in that fund,” she said.
On Thursday, Abang Johari, with the assistance of his chief political secretary, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, personally donated RM50,000, offering a crucial lifeline to Syafiq.
As mentioned earlier by Fazzrudin, the initial amount for the first year is RM50,000. If there is a need for additional funds in the future, the opportunity for further discussion remains open.
