UNDER the 12th Malaysia Plan, the Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Ministry proposed RM50 million from the state government for building and upgrading of farm roads throughout Sarawak.
Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail (PBB-Bukit Kota) said for this purpose, an additional RM10 million has also been proposed to the federal government.
“In the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), a total of RM77.5 million has been allocated for building and upgrading of farm roads in Sarawak where 900 projects have been implemented involving 770km of farm roads and have benefited 16,705 smallholders.
“Under the 12MP, the allocation involves 250km of farm roads and other infrastructural components for farms throughout the state,” he clarified.
Abdul Rahman said the state government has also provided two assistance schemes for oil palm smallholders.
This assistance includes the new oil palm plantation assistance scheme and an assistance scheme to increase the productivity of oil palms.
“For the first one, the scope of the assistance include providing land, seedlings, and agricultural inputs such as fertiliser and pesticide.
“As for the second one, only agricultural input assistance is provided,” he added.
