MIRI: Local farmers in this district on Sunday donated vegetables to two villages in Riam to help them survive the movement control order (MCO).

A total of 250kg of vegetables were distributed to Kampung Lembah Hijau and Kampung Lopeng Tengah.

The fresh produce was earlier handed over to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Senadin branch before being distributed to the villagers.

According to Minister in charge of the Miri Disaster Management Committee, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, prior to the distribution, SUPP Senadin was briefed on socio-physical distancing while delivering the vegetables to the villages.

Both headmen of Kampung Lopeng Tengah and Kampung Lembah Hijau — Nilawati Simat and Adam Malik thanked the farmers and the state government of helping them during this difficult time.

“Due to the MCO, we find it very difficult to buy fresh vegetables because we can’t just go out freely,” said Adam.
