KUCHING: A memorandum was signed yesterday between the board of directors of Sarawak Farmers’ Organisation (SFO) and chairmen of 28 Area Farmers’ Associations (AFO) to protest against the Farmers’ Organisation (Amendment) Regulations 2019.
SFO chairman Datuk Sylvester Entri said they opposed the amendment because of its political bias.
“It is not for the interest and rights of the shareholders of the farmers’ organisations in Malaysia,” he said during a press conference at a local hotel here.
“As it will be detrimental to the farmers’ organisations, it must be withdrawn or cancelled immediately.”
In their protest, they will suspend all general meetings throughout Sarawak and the State Farmers Organisation annual general meeting.
“Until the amendment is cancelled by the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (FOA) and the Agriculture Ministry, the protest will continue,” said Entri.
