LAWAS:  A potential disaster was averted this afternoon by a quick-thinking staff of a government office here when he acted swiftly upon spotting a fire that had broken out from a fluorescent lamp on the ground floor of the double-storey building.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident was reported at 2.45 pm.

Firefighters from the Lawas fire station promptly responded to the emergency call and rushed to the scene.

Thanks to the prompt actions by the office staff, no injuries were reported.

The fire, which was contained quickly, only caused a very minimal damage to the building.

At the time of the incident, six officers were inside the office. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
