SIBU: A man died while four others sustained injuries following a two-vehicle crash at Lorong Ulu Oya 8, Jalan Ulu Oya here, today (Nov 11).

The fatal accident happened around 7am when both vehicles – a Proton Saga and a Perodua Ixora – collided head-on with each other from opposite directions.

After receiving a distress call, firemen from Sungai Merah station were despatched to the scene, which was around 7km away from the station.

According to Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, the Saga driver was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“The team used the rescue tool to help extricate the 53-year-old victim’s body from the car and handed the victim over to the police for further action,” he said.

Three passengers inside the Saga and the Ixora’s driver sustained injuries and were transported to Sibu Hospital for additional treatment.

“Once the operation was successfully concluded, the team returned to the station,” he said.
