KUCHING: A 24-year-old lorry attendant was killed when the vehicle he was in crashed into another lorry carrying oil palm fruits near the Spaoh junction on the Pan Borneo Highway.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre received a distress call at 11.44 pm on Thursday and despatched a team from Betong fire station.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found that the deceased identified as Renang Brain from Kanowit was pinned by the lorry’s cabin, while the 47-year old driver managed to escape from the vehicle and sustained minor injuries on his left leg.

The firefighters had to extricate the body of the attendant from the lorry and paramedics on site confirmed that he had passed away.

The body was handed over to the police for further action to be taken.

However, the driver of the lorry carrying oil palm fruits was unhurt during the accident.

After ensuring the situation was deemed safe for other road users, the Bomba team returned to their station.
