BETONG: The body of a tuai rumah (longhouse chief), who was reported to have fallen victim to a crocodile attack yesterday (Oct 14), was discovered at around 8.40am today.
The victim, Chaong Baringai, 67, was found about 10 metres from where he was last seen.
The victim was found by villagers with bite marks on his neck and the right side of his head
A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim’s body was handed over to the police at the location and taken to Hospital Sri Aman for further action.
The two-day operation also involved the Civil Defence Force (APM).
At around 10.28am yesterday, the victim was reportedly drawing water from the Skrang River bank to fill a spray tank with pesticides for use in the paddy fields.
Suddenly, the victim’s wife heard her husband’s cries, prompting his wife to rush to the scene only to witness her husband being attacked by the aggressive crocodile.
She witnessed the predator carrying the victim’s body upstream.
