KUCHING: A road accident which occurred early this morning (Oct 17) at Batu 18, Jalan Kuching-Serian had resulted in the death of a 62-year-old man, after the pick-up truck he drove plunged into a ditch.
Upon receiving a call at 6.10 am, a team from the Siburan Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) were dispatched to the scene.
The victim, identified as Lai Sze Ho, was trapped in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
Firefighters used Road Traffic Accident (RTA) equipment to extricate him, but the rescue operation was hampered by waist-deep water in the ditch, making it difficult to secure an anchor point for the ram.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later handed over to the police for further action.
