BETONG: A man and his daughter managed to escape a fiery death after the van they were in, caught fire along Jalan Temenggong Datuk Montegrai on Wednesday (Nov 16).

No injuries or casualties were reported as the 56-year-old driver and his 15-year-old daughter managed to get out to safety.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) said the incident happened around 4.40pm in front of Betong public library.

Firemen from Betong station were promptly despatched to the scene to put out the fire.

However, the van was beyond saving by the time they arrived at the scene.

Extinguishing works were carried out by firemen who were in full personal protective equipment (PPE) and wearing breathing apparatus.

After the situation was deemed safe, the team wrapped up the operation and departed back to their station.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
