DARO: A fishing trip turned tragic when a father died while his two children survived after their boat capsized in the waters of Pulau Bruit near Kampung Penipah yesterday (July 9).
Matu Daro police chief DSP Rahim Mihos said they received information on the incident at around 8.19 am.
It was reported that the victim and his sons, aged 23 and 25, had gone fishing at sea around 6 pm on Monday (July 8).
“While returning to Kampung Penipah jetty, their boat was overturned by a big wave caused by strong winds and heavy rain.
“The locals formed a search party and found the victim’s two sons safe and clinging onto the overturned boat. Their 55-year-old father was discovered unconscious in the boat’s small cabin,” he said.
Paramedics confirmed that the father had died at the scene.
Rahim advised the public, especially the fishing community, to exercise caution when going to sea due to strong winds, waves and uncertain weather conditions.
