KUCHING: Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah is hoping that more seats would be allocated to women candidates in the next state election.
“We need to improve in terms of representation of women,” she told reporters after officiating at Women Leadership Training Programme at Penview Hotel here yesterday.
Fatimah placed great emphasis on the need to prepare women with potential, especially those under 40.
“We need to help them improve their skills, for example, through this leadership training programme, so that they have the skills required by a leader,” she said.
She also strongly encouraged women to take the lead by organising a programme or project to address issues that they observe in their respective areas. This would help them to gain more leadership experience.
Fatimah also urged more experienced women leaders to fully support and mentor the younger group, adding, “One day, these senior women will have to relinquish their posts to them so that they can continue.
“We identify those with potential first, then develop their skills to the maximum level and give them the opportunity to lead so that they can become good leaders.”
