KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah is in favour of Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s firm stand on tracking down people who refused to get themselves vaccinated.
“It is high time to be firm after countless explanations not only from the medical but also religious perspectives that were done by the government through social media as well as traditional media,” the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister said.
She stressed that the educating, creating awareness, and persuading phases are over and that it is time to act firmly towards anti-vaxxers as they are at high risk of infection.
“Suppose that it is not a matter of concern to them but when they become infected or a carrier, they can infect others in the community who are vulnerable, especially children, the elderly and those with comorbidities.
“This cannot be allowed any longer, hence, firm action is needed and I salute Khairy’s will,” she added.
Recently, the Health Ministry had decided to track down people who refused to get themselves vaccinated against Covid-19 instead of waiting for them to turn up at vaccination centres (PPVs).
Khairy said the country has reached a point where the supply of Covid-19 vaccines exceeded the number of recipients waiting to get vaccinated.
Meanwhile, commenting on the challenges faced inoculating the remaining unvaccinated community, Fatimah said that although it is not easy, it can be done.
“Amongst the Penans, it was indeed a challenge because they do not have fixed addresses. Similarly, the same challenge had been faced in vaccinating the homeless community.
“Though it is difficult and challenging, we have done it nonetheless,” she said.
