MUKAH: Fatimah Narawi not only has made Sarawak famous at the national level but also Balingian district when she won the Wanita Waja 2021 Award for the ‘Ikon Insani’ category in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the success of the chairwoman of the Mukah Division Women is only fitting because she (Fatimah) is very active in various welfare activities with the community.
“I pray that she (Fatimah) would continue to achieve success in any field that she ventures in.
“May her story becomes an inspiration to many in anything that they do in life,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune’s sister paper Suara Sarawak last Tuesday.
Fatimah is among the 20 women shortlisted to receive the Wanita Waja 2021 Award as well as the only representative from Sarawak to receive the prestigious national award.
Hail from Kampung Pulat, Balingian, the 56-year-old woman is very popular in Mukah for her active involvement in community-based activities.
Among her contribution are donating food to frontliners in collaboration with Mukah Resident Department, providing assistance to the orphans at Rumah Peryatim Bintulu alongside Perkim of Balingian branch, contributing assistance to Madrasah Mukah in collaboration with Perkim of Balingian branch and assisting the needy families together with Perkim of Balingian branch throughout the past two years.
She received various awards such as ‘State Perkim Award’, ‘Excellent Worker Award’ at Unity Department and ‘Bintang ABS’ from Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in the past two years.
Leading the list for the award this year were Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Mohd Radzi (Ikon Seri Waja), Norhayati Philip Alberto @ Jamal (Ikon Aspirasi), Eng Seow Wei (Ikon Inspirasi) and Dr Sarah Shaikh Abdul Karim (Ikon Karisma).
