KUCHING: Taska Cahaya Horizons is an example of a quality taska (pre-school), said Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah when declaring open the taksa at Taman Fairview, Jalan Stampin Tengah, Green Heights here, yesterday.

“A quality taska is one that complies with requirements of various related agencies regarding its infrastructure facilities.

“First, a quality taska must be a safe place for the children as endorsed by the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) and also providing healthy food and balanced meals for the children as required by the Health Department,” she said.

Fatimah added that a quality taska will also look into the teacher-children ratio by the Health Department.

“The ratio for babies are 1:3, toddlers 1:5 and above 5 years old 1:10. In Taska Cahaya Horizons, there are 19 teachers to 19 children which is a ratio of 1:1 and they have more than passed,” she pointed out.

Fatimah said for the Welfare Department, it will look into the floor space provided per child.

“In this taska, it seems that the operator does not have the problem as the operator is using a bungalow which has ample space for the children,” she said.

She added that in terms of curriculum, all Taska in Malaysia must adopt the Permata curriculum and that all the teachers are required to undergo training to expose them to the Permata curriculum.

“And here is not only using the Permata curriculum but more than that, A lot of enrichment programmes which become an advantage to the children.

“Hence, we can benchmark Taska Cahaya Horizons as a quality taska,” she said.

Fatimah said a taska is a very important learning institution where the children will be cared for with love, inculcated with the right values and are exposed to the learning environment where they are taught to explore, solve problems, interact with others and communicate with respect.

“Most importantly we want them to learn with fun, going to taska and school because it is fun,” she added.
