DALAT: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has stressed that education is a long-term investment as it can lead to positive changes in a family’s economic status.

Fatimah, who is the Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, stated that education is a priority in every region as it plays a crucial role in securing the future of children.

“Various areas provide educational assistance to support parents in ensuring their children can continue their studies at higher levels.

“This assistance is especially vital in addressing initial financial challenges, such as covering the cost of flight tickets and purchasing necessary equipment for education.”

She made these remarks during the Education Committee Assistance presentation ceremony and the handover of cheques for the Minor Rural Project-Sarawak Poor House Improvement Project (MRP-PPRMS) Dalat District here on today (Sept 15).

Fatimah shared that between 2010 and 2023, a total of 1,590 individuals in the Dalat area have received education assistance.

“Out of this number, 550 pursued certificates, 677 pursued diplomas, 327 pursued degrees, and others pursued various educational categories.”

In the current year, the total amount of education assistance provided in the Dalat area is RM33,700, benefitting 71 recipients. Additionally, 44 individuals received education assistance during the ceremony, with an allocation of RM17,800.

Fatimah, who is also the Dalat assemblywoman, encouraged aid recipients to use the support exclusively for educational purposes. “The goal is for all children to succeed and for the assistance to fulfil its intended objective.”

Addressing the handover of MRP-PPRMS cheques, she explained that it is an initiative of the state government aimed at helping people repair their homes.

“In the Phase Two handover this year, 37 houses from 27 villages received a total allocation of RM486,000.
“These repairs involve replacing roofs, floors, walls, constructing new toilets, and other essential improvements, with repair costs ranging from RM5,000 to RM15,000 per house.”
