KUCHING: The commendable aged care facilities and services in Singapore serve as an example for the Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Ministry, setting the stage for Sarawak’s proactive preparation for an aging population by 2028.
Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said Singapore’s exemplary support system, emphasising its effectiveness for seniors desiring to age gracefully in their own residences.
“Singapore’s support system, with its robust security and health components, ensures swift assistance in emergencies, such as falling off their bedside, thanks to an available alert system.
“Hence, it serves as a model for the necessary support system if the elderly choose to reside independently in the years to come,” she said in her speech at the Chinese New Year celebration at Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng nursing home here yesterday (Feb 5)
In the meantime, Fatimah urged the elderly in Sarawak to actively engage in various activities organised by the Elderly Activity Centre (PAWE) and Elderly Service Centre (PPWE).
“Through their involvement, the elderly will experience reduced loneliness and cultivate friendships.
“Currently, Sarawak boasts of 12 PAWE and 13 PPWE centres, designed to provide spaces for seniors to come together and partake in activities they cherish,” she said.
Fatimah also encouraged the elderly to prioritise not only their physical health but also their mental and emotional well-being as they continue to age gracefully.
