KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Department (FDS) and Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) have jointly collaborated in its commitment to reforestation efforts by conducting a tree planting activity in the Sabal Forest Reserve on September 14.
Through this joint project which gathered about 150 members of FDS, CMS, University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) academics, students, and together with the local community they have successfully planted 2,500 saplings of high-value native tree species such as belian, meranti, kapur and engkabang.
CMS’s tree planting activity is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, which also includes supporting the Greening of Malaysia Campaign through planting 100 million trees and the Greening of Sarawak Campaign led by FDS.
FDS representative, Rohanie Bohan stated in his speech that through their committed efforts in tree planting, it has contributed to the cumulative number of trees planted in Sarawak under the ‘Greening Malaysia Agenda Through the 100 million Tree Planting Campaign’ (2021-2025).
“Even though this campaign has exceeded the 35 million annual target for tree planting, but the most important objective for this campaign is to combat climate change, which has emerged as a serious problem facing humanity today,” he said.
As the leader of the Sarawak Greening Campaign, FDS commended CMS for its commitment in forest sustainability.
“We are glad to have participation from various corporate groups and the public to conserve the environment,” he concluded.
