KUCHING: The Sarawak government has requested the support of the Federal Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) to complete a crucial road project in the Belaga district.
A delegation led by Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Seri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, met with Deputy Secretary-General of NRES Norsham Abdul Latip during a recent courtesy visit.
The 4.2-kilometre road aims to connect the Bakun Dam Road to Rumah Panjang Uma Sambop, a longhouse settlement with approximately 680 residents.
“While 3.8 kilometres of the road have been completed, the remaining 400 metres require approval to proceed as it passes through land owned by the Ministry of Education (MOE),” said the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) in a statement.
RECODA is overseeing the project.
Its chief executive officer (CEO), Datuk Ismawi Ismuni, participated in the courtesy visit alongside representatives from relevant Sarawak government agencies and the Federal Department of Lands and Mines.
Completing the road would significantly improve access to essential services for the residents of Uma Sambop.
“This vital link will not only benefit the residents but also facilitate easier access for students and teachers at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Uma Sambop,” it said.
The improved accessibility would also allow residents to reach the Uma Sambop Health Clinic more conveniently for medical care.
SK Uma Sambop falls within the Katibas constituency.
