KUCHING: The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) remains committed to collaborating with the Sarawak government to ensure that the constructed ‘naked towers’ are fully utilised without delay.
Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching assured that the KKD, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will conduct regular meetings with the state government and service providers to ensure that these towers benefit local residents.
“If these towers are left unused and remain as naked towers, they cannot provide services. Therefore, MCMC will continue engaging in meetings involving the Sarawak government and service providers such as CelcomDigi, Maxis, and U Mobile to ensure that these towers offer services to local residents,” she said in response to a question raised by Shafizan Kepli (GPS-Batang Lupar) in Parliament recently.
Teo further mentioned that 10 telecommunication towers have been constructed in Phase 1 under the Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunication (SMART) initiative within Shafizan’s constituency.
Additionally, six towers are planned for construction in Phase 2.
Addressing the inquiry about Unifi services in the Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency, which includes Sebuyau, Lingga, and Beting Maro, Teo provided a written reply indicating that Telekom Malaysia (TM) has installed 520 Unifi ports in Sebuyau, benefiting 152 customers.
