KUCHING: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) federal government through the Public Works Ministry has allocated a total of RM5 million this year for upgrading works on four federal roads in Kuching which are now in progress.
The projects are Jalan Tun Razak upgrade costing RM2 million, Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha (RM1 million), Jalan Tun Razak — in front of Rajah Court Hotel (RM1 million) and Jalan Tun Jugah upgrade costing RM1 million.
Democratic Action Party (DAP) organising secretary cum Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong Wui Wui was recently briefed on the progress on the roads upgrades by Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, the projects’ supervising agency.
Yong specifically wanted the upgrading work at the traffic light intersection of Jalan Tun Razak – Jalan Foochow here to be speeded up and completed within the shortest time possible.
“Since the commencement of the road repair works, I have received countless complaints from public using Jalan Tun Razak/Jalan Foochow that the slowness of the repair works has aggravated the heavy traffic jam, especially during the peak hours,” she said.
The Jalan Tun Razak – Jalan Foochow road upgrading work is divided into five stages and expected to be completed by mid-November this year.
