KUALA LUMPUR: In a successful culmination of their four-month partnership with the local non-profit organisation Treat Every Environment Special (TrEES), FedEx Express (FedEx) has aided in cultivating and delivering vegetables to underprivileged communities in Malaysia.
Managing director of FedEx Express Malaysia Tien Long Woon said from Aug to Nov this year, 16 FedEx volunteers engaged in planting, harvesting, sorting, and distribution of vegetables as well as maintenance of a 1,000 square foot community garden located in the Klang Valley.
He said on the final day of the programme, the FedEx volunteers delivered the vegetables to a local care home.
“I am thrilled to see the team volunteering their personal time to support programmes which enable positive sustainable changes in our communities.
“FedEx is committed to creating a better world and one way we are doing so is by supporting local sustainable farming efforts to improve food security among the less fortunate,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 7).
Tien said the programme is part of the FedEx Cares global community engagement programme underpinned by FedEx cultural value of ‘Committing to Do Good’.
“Progress in key areas of FedEx’s corporate social responsibility initiatives include pillars such as community engagement, global entrepreneurship, and sustainable logistics,” he said.
Meanwhile, Director of TrEES Leela Panikkar said working alongside FedEx on the vegetable farming programme has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
“We hope that this programme will continue to benefit various communities on a long-term basis,” she said.
For the record, FedEx Express is one of the world’s largest express transportation companies that provides fast and reliable delivery to more than 220 countries and territories.
FedEx Express uses a global air-and-ground network to speed the delivery of time-sensitive shipments by a definite time and date.
