KUALA LUMPUR: FedEx Express has successfully completed a four-month programme in collaboration with local non-profit organisation Treat Every Environment Special (TrEES) to grow and deliver vegetables to underprivileged communities in Malaysia.

From August to November, 16 FedEx volunteers engaged in various aspects of the programme, including planting, harvesting, sorting, and distributing vegetables, said FedEx Express Malaysia managing director Tien Long Woon.

He added that they also maintained a 1,000-square-foot community garden located in the Klang Valley. The program culminated with the FedEx volunteers delivering the freshly harvested vegetables to a local care home.

“I am thrilled to see the team volunteering their personal time to support programmes that enable positive sustainable changes in our communities.

“FedEx is committed to creating a better world, and one way we are doing so is by supporting local sustainable farming efforts to improve food security among the less fortunate,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 7).

The programme is part of the FedEx Cares global community engagement initiative, aligned with FedEx’s cultural value of ‘Committing to Do Good’.

This initiative aims to improve food security among less fortunate communities through sustainable farming efforts, thus contributing to FedEx’s corporate social responsibility pillars in areas such as community engagement, global entrepreneurship, and sustainable logistics.

Meanwhile TrEES director Leela Panikkar expressed her appreciation for the rewarding experience of working alongside FedEx on the vegetable farming programme. “We hope that it will continue to benefit various communities on a long-term basis.”
