MIRI: Police have arrested two hotel guests, both female aged 19 and 16, for smashing a television screen inside a room in the hotel at Lorong Marina 5/2 here.
The two girls were detained on Friday following a report lodged by the hotel’s supervisor.
They had reportedly checked-into one of the hotel’s room around 9pm on April 5 with two male friends, and checked-out on April 8.
The damage to the television screen estimated at around RM1,300, was discovered by the hotel’s cleaning staff who went into the room after the guests had checked out.
They immediately alerted their supervisor who later on lodged a police report.
Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari confirmed the arrest.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and thereby causes loss or damage to property. If found guilty, they face imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than five years or with fine or both.
