SEBUYAU: The operating hours of the Sebuyau-Triso Ferry will be extended ahead of the Christmas season.
Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi said this will facilitate users as it is the main route on the coastal road.
“The ferry is still operating as usual, but I was made to understand that the ferry will operate over time soon.
“This is because we take into account the needs of the community who want to return during the festive season,” he told reporters after the launching ceremony of the Mini Library in Kampung Sampat, Sebangan here today.
He added that usually, the operating hours of the ferry will be extended to two hours.
“This will allow those using the coastal road routes to cross the Batang Lupar River.
“It will also reduce the queuing time of vehicles waiting to board the ferry,” he said.
The Sebuyau assemblyman also explained that the number of vehicles queuing for ferries is not only at its peak during the festive season but also on weekends and school holidays.
“However, I think during the school holidays, the people may have planned their trip early.
“I also hope that the queue waiting to board the ferry is not as long as before,” he said.
For the record, there are 12 ferry bases throughout Sarawak and seven ferry bases are located on coastal roads.
Apart from that, with the subsidy from the Sarawak government, consumers only need to pay RM1 to use the ferry service.
