ROBAN: A replica of an Iban longhouse will be one of the highlights of this year’s Roban Festival.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said, “With the presence of this longhouse replica, all visitors, regardless of their ethnicity, will have the opportunity to experience the true atmosphere of being in a longhouse.
“For the younger generation, this is their chance to get acquainted with the original and traditional concept of the longhouse in which their ancestors once lived.”
He made these remarks when questioned after the Final Meeting of the 2023 Roban Festival at the Public Library Room recently.
Mohamad said Penghulu Jos @ George Maggie, would lead the construction of the longhouse.
“I believe it will evoke memories of living in a longhouse in the past. This is because everything is modern now, and the new generation follows a different lifestyle.
In addition to the longhouse replica, the Saratok District Council (MDS) is providing 149 sales lots for traders selling various products.
“In connection with this, I call on everyone to visit Roban from November 10 to 12,” he said.
On the Perau Sungai Seblak Race event, Mohamad said six screening events and two championship events involving Sakai Tujuh and Sakai 10 cycling would be held.
Meanwhile, the entertainment stage will be graced with performances by Lucy M, Melissa Francis, Ricky El, and several other artists during the Mini Fun Fair.
The Saratok Community Development Department (KEMAS) will organise a competition for those aged 15 to 39 while the Saratok Hospital is also organising a Blood Donation Campaign.
Mohamad said other activities would include briefings, registration for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC), Roban Cycling Fun Ride, Closed Badminton Competition, Let’s Exercise, multicultural dance performances, blowpipe competitions, Ratu Kebaya competition, tug-of-war on water, karaoke competition and Three Serumpun cooking competition.
“Don’t miss the 2023 Roban Festival. After eight years’ absence, this year’s festival is bound to be attractive as it combines the three state constituencies of Kalaka, Krian, and Kabong,” he added.
