KUCHING: The Chinese New Year (CNY) Bazaar 2024 at Pines Square in Batu Kawa here officially kicked off with the illumination of a grand cat mascot – setting the stage for the imminent CNY celebrations.
Organised by the Sarawak branch of the National Consumer Action Council (MTPN), the event runs from Jan 24 to Feb 7, featuring 60 stalls.
The bazaar offers a selection of food, beverages, and handicrafts for visitors to indulge in.
MTPN Sarawak president Wynson Ong said the primary goal of the bazaar is to provide a platform for small traders to sell their products.
“The event is also aimed not only to generate CNY festive spirit within the community in Kuching but some of the profit that we receive will be given to the unfortunate and needy groups.
“We hope that through this bazaar, it can help some of the small and medium (SMEs) and entrepreneurs to promote their products and build their business network further,” he said when met by reporters after the opening ceremony.
A series of exciting activities are planned throughout the bazaar, including a cheongsam show, lucky draw, and singing competition.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai was present to officiate at the opening ceremony which was marked by the lighting of the cat mascot, followed by a spectacular fireworks display in the Batu Kawa area – accompanied by lion and dragon dances with traditional musical performances.
