KUCHING: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) is grateful that it is receiving fewer prank calls this year.

Khirudin Drahman

Sarawak Bomba director Khirudin Drahman told New Sarawak Tribune that the department had received only six prank calls in the first six months of this year compared to 16 prank calls for the whole of 2018.

He said five of the prank calls in 2018 were about forest or bush fires while four were about structure fires.

Khirudin attributed the decline in prank calls to the community’s appreciation and respect for the department’s services.

“This proves that our tireless engagement with the community and media coverage is paying off and the message that we want to convey is getting across.

“It is really great to see members of society have matured and are becoming more responsible with their actions,” he added.
