KUCHING: The fielding of young candidates by political parties in the upcoming 15TH General Election (GE15) is inevitable with the implementation of Undi18.
Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said he fully supported the nomination of young candidates as “they have the energy, ideas and leadership qualities that can be tapped into to pave a brighter future for Sarawak.”
He stressed that the younger generation must be aware of politics in the state and country, and participate in the democratic process.
“Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has anticipated Undi18 and due to the foresight of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Parti Bersatu Bumiputera Pesaka (PBB) launched its new 18 to 28 wing. I was made to understand that Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) also launched a new wing, Pewaris PRS.
“Democratic Action Party (DAP) can field any young candidates as it wishes but the people will decide,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.
He was commenting on Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii’s recent disclosure that DAP would be placing more emphasis on young candidates for GE15.
Azizul said based on the previous state election results, things were not looking so good for DAP.
“It could be one of DAP’s ways to attract young voters in view of Undi18. However, GPS has an excellent track record even though the coalition was formed four years ago and this was proven by winning 76 seats in the recent state election.
“This clearly shows that the public have a negative perception of West Malaysian-based parties.”
