Fifth straight day without Covid-19 case

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded yet another zero positive Covid-19 cases yesterday, entering its fifth consecutive day of the streak, with the total number of positive cases still remains at 544 since the first positive case was reported on March 13.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said another three patients had been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and one patient from Sibu Hospital, bringing the total number of patients discharged to 435 or 79.96 per cent.

“There are 19 new person under investigation (PUI) cases and 19 are awaiting laboratory test results,” he said at the committee’s Covid-19 daily update press conference here yesterday. 

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, noted that a total of 7,029 students from the Peninsular, Sabah and Labuan had returned to the state while 5,883 students in the state had been sent back to their respective hometowns as of yesterday.

“For everyone’s information, the state government has borne all the costs of accommodation and food at all quarantine centres throughout Sarawak,” he added.

On the inter-district travel applications, Uggah said a total of 3,790 applications had been received by 28 police district headquarters, bringing the cumulative total to 30,782.

“Of the total, 28,627 applications have been approved while 2,155 applications have been rejected,” he said.

“The inspections teams today (yesterday) have inspected 2,005 locations, which included 275 supermarkets, restaurants (516), factories (42), banks (171), government offices (75), hawker centres (97), markets (110), places of worship (100), recreational area (57), construction sites (32), and others (530),” he added.

He said as of yesterday, 28,539 notifications of economic sectors opening had been received. Of the total, 20,519 notifications were given online while 8,020 were given through emails.
