KUCHING: Collaborative efforts between government agencies and the community are crucial in combating dengue.
In stating this, Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah Sapiee said everybody plays a proactive role in preventing infection by taking care of the environment.
“Therefore, to effectively address the issue, there is a need for active implementation of Aedes campaigns through district action committees, involving district agencies, community leaders, and the general public.
“At the same time, it is important to provide health information on dengue to community leaders, enabling them to mobilise local residents for participation in Aedes-related initiatives,” she said.
She said this in her text-of-speech, which was read by her special officer Idris Ibrahim, when officiating at the recent Simunjan district fight aedes programme at Kampung Sekendu.
Rodiyah then praised the ‘Gotong-Royong Mega Perangi Aedes’ programme, stating that it exemplified commitment and shared responsibility in the fight against dengue fever.
“Despite the implementation of control measures by relevant agencies and volunteer teams like Communication for Behavioural Impact (COMBI), the daily increase in reported dengue cases remains a major challenge.
“The main challenge to curbing the spread of dengue is the attitude of our own society, which is not sensitive to the need to ensure the environment is free from Aedes mosquitoes,” she said.
Moreover, she said the lack of cooperation from individuals further hampers control efforts, potentially compromising the overall quality of life due to the problems caused by dengue fever.
