SERIAN: In a poignant farewell, the last words of a Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officer Senior Seaman JJM Joanna Felicia Rohna, who recently passed away, were remembered.
Her husband, Petty Officer TKM Haslie Ali, 33, shared a conversation they had a week before the tragic incident, where she implored, “If I am no more, take care of our two children.”
Initially seen as playful banter, her words now carry a grave significance.
“She played with words, saying, ‘If I’m gone, take care of our two children.’ I thought she was just joking,” Haslie recounted during an interview at his home in Kampung Engkeroh yesterday (Apr 26).
Reflecting on their relationship, Haslie reminisced about the serendipitous meeting that sparked their romance at Lumut Naval Base, Perak, in 2018. Their bond quickly deepened, leading to marriage the following year.
“It was mutual affection. The decision to marry was something we both agreed upon,” he said.
He described his late wife as sweet-natured, charismatic, and compassionate, a woman who made a lasting impact on those around her.
“She had sweetness and an engaging personality. She was also a caring daughter and a helpful friend.
“She could be tough too, but that’s part of what made her special. Even in arguments, she remained gentle,” he added.
Joanna was among the ten RMN officers who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Lumut, Perak, last Tuesday. She leaves behind a daughter, Allesia Felice Haslie, 4, and a son, Hovannes Haslie, 1.
Her legacy endures through the memories of her family, who view her as a devoted wife, loving mother, and dedicated naval officer.
As they cope with their loss, they find comfort in honouring her memory and treasuring the moments they shared.
