KUCHING: The exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology within Malaysia’s film industry involves understanding its transformative impact and recognising how AI enhancements can elevate the industry holistically.
National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib stressed the importance of readiness and embracing the changes brought about by AI technology.
“Globally speaking, AI technology has made its way into the creative industry. Whether we like it or not, we cannot run from these changes; we must accept AI technology. What we can do is explore how AI technology can improve film production.”
Azmir made these remarks during a dialogue session with local filmmakers at the Sarawak FINAS building here today (Feb 20).
“FINAS also plans to raise awareness among filmmakers about AI technology. I have met with some production companies that have integrated AI technology. Malaysia has the potential to become not only a content hub but also a technology hub.”
Azmir expressed his goal of ensuring that, within the next 10 years, film workers can master technology and push boundaries in filmmaking.
He stressed the need for proficiency in equipment such as cameras, editing, visual effects, green screens, and virtual production sets.
“These elements will eventually be adopted by the industry. FINAS and the federal government will explore investments in this technology to provide opportunities for our industry.”
