SIBU: The Land and Survey Department is currently searching for a new location for Pasar Tamu in Kampung Sentosa.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said that this idea comes from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who wants a larger area to build the Pasar Tamu.
“In an earlier proposal, I suggested to Premier that we want to build the Pasar Tamu in Kampung Sentosa on a 1.5-acre piece of land.
“But he noted that this land is too small. He asked me to find a government land of at least five acres. This way, we can create a more complete Pasar Tamu building,” he explained when asked about the recent progress of the planned Kampung Sentosa Pasar Tamu at the Sentosa village football field during the Sukan Rakyat Bolasepak 9-Sebelah Tertutup today (Aug 26).
Last year, on August 14, Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian suggested a place near the village’s main road for building the Pasar Tamu.
“Although the previous spot we picked was seen as a better location, the Premier doesn’t want traffic jams to be a future problem.
“So, it’s a good idea for the Pasar Tamu to not only have its building or stalls but also enough parking space for vehicles,” he said.
“That’s why, together with the team from the Sibu Division Land and Survey Department, we will continue searching for other suitable areas within this village.
“I will make sure that we search very carefully for the right land for this Pasar Tamu, and it will still be built right here in Kampung Sentosa,” he added.
