KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here today (Apr 4) fined a local woman RM800 in default two weeks’ jail for selling public lottery tickets without a licence at a shop premises in Siburan last February.
Vivia, 21, from Kampung Tebakang, pleaded guilty to one charge under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.
According to the charge, she committed the offence at a shop premises in Siburan around 5.15 pm on February 24.
According to the facts of the case, a team of police officers from the Padawan District Police Headquarters raided a premises suspected of being involved in the sale of public lottery tickets without a licence.
The raid successfully apprehended a woman who was sitting in the shop, believed to be handling the sales of the lottery tickets.
A mobile phone, a pencil, pieces of paper with lottery numbers written on them, and cash totalling RM329 were seized during the operation.
Investigations revealed that the accused possessed public lottery tickets without a licence.
The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Prosecutor Ammarsoffi Yusoff while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
