BINTULU: Approximately 200 factory workers were left homeless when their quarters in Samalaju Industrial Park were gutted by fire on Thursday evening,

Officer-in-charge of the Bintulu Fire and Rescue station, Mohd Meramit said the it was believed that the 6pm fire broke out  at the second block of the quarters.

“The quarters had two blocks with a total of 50 rooms which housed 300 factory workers. Thirty rooms at the second block were totally destroyed in the fire,” he said yesterday.

Mohd said no casualty was reported as all the workers managed to escape.

Losses and cause of fire are being investigated.
