KUCHING: An early morning fire has claimed the lives of a mother cat and its kitten after a room used to shelter pet cats caught fire today (Nov 28).

The 6.35am incident happened inside a room on the ground floor of a double-storey house along Jalan M Avenue, Matang.

It was also reported that two pet cats — a mother and its kitten — were killed in the fire.

However, the exact number of pets in the room were not disclosed.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Petra Jaya and Batu Lintang stations were promptly despatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arriving, they confirmed that the fire occurred in a room that used to shelter pet cats in the ground floor and it (fire) had spread to the living room.

It was reported that the flames which had caused 30 per cent damages, were successfully extinguished by the home owner before the team arrived.
