SIBU: A car parked by the roadside and a double-storey house were damaged by fire at different locations today (July 14).
The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the first incident, involving a parked Toyota Corolla, happened at around 1.35 am along Jalan Hua Kew 52B.
Firefighters from Sibu central station were deployed to the scene to perform the extinguishing deed.
“The fire was brought under control at 1.40 am and overhaul works were conducted to ensure that there was no risk of reignition.
“No injuries were reported as the owner was nowhere to be found during the incident,” the centre said.
Meanwhile, the second incident, involving a double-storey house along Lorong Bukit 5, Timur 14B, happened at around 9.10 am.
Firefighters from the same station were deployed to the scene and they found that the fire happened at the front porch that was used as a storage for oxygen cylinders, tyres, and various machine tools.
“Extinguishing efforts were carried out using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
“The operation ended at 10.43 am without any injuries or casualties reported,” the centre said.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred in both cases are still under investigation.
