KUCHING: India Street residents and traders here yesterday participated in a fire demonstration. The Chairman of India Street Pedestrian Mall, Dato Wee Hong Seng said that the demo was much needed to educate the residents and traders on handling fire emergencies.

“There were many fire incidents in the past and yet, we are still not well equipped to handle emergency situations when the need arises. “Today, the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) will educate us on how to use the fire extinguisher and also other ways of preventing a fire from spreading,” said Wee.

He added that India Street was part of the state’s precious heritage. “Bear in mind that we are not only stakeholders or owners of the shops here but also the custodians of Kuching’s most important heritage,” said Wee.
