KUCHING: A family of five managed to escape an inferno that burnt their double-storey house to the ground at Jalan Layang-Layang, Kampung Semerah Padi, here on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson from State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, three distress calls on the incident were received by Malaysia Emergency Response Service (MERS 999) at 8.15pm.
Following the call, 13 firefighters of Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), a First Response Team (FRT), a Prime Mover Water Tanker and Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS), led by Senior Fire Officer II Nooruldin Ismail Talap, were despatched to the scene.
Eleven firefighters of Padungan BBP also rushed to the scene, along with one FRT and EMRS, led by Senior Fire Officer II Abd Aziz.
By the time they arrived, the fire had destroyed the double-storey house.
Firefighters managed to control and prevent the fire from spreading to the next house around 8.30pm. The whole operation ended at 9.20pm with no injuries or fatalities reported.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated and the total losses have yet to be ascertained.
