Fire destroys quarters of workers in Selangau

SIBU:  Thirteen Indonesian plantation workers were made homeless after their quarters at Ladang Sungai Sepiak, Dijih in Selangau were engulfed in flames on Saturday (Dec 26).

The Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the workers comprised 11 men and two women.

According to the spokesperson, the incident occurred around 10pm on Saturday.

“However, we only received a call regarding the incident the following day (Sunday) around 11.05am.

“After receiving the call, Selangau fire station despatched their men to the scene.

“When the team arrived, they found the workers’ quarters were already razed to the ground. We were informed by the complainant that the fire happened the night before,” the spokesperson said.

The firemen proceeded to extinguish small embers at the scene to ensure that the fire is completely put out.

No casualties were reported and the team went back to their station after extinguishing works was done.
