KUCHING: Some shelves and files in a paddy and rice regulatory office in Batu Kawah New Township were destroyed in an evening fire on Friday.
Firemen from Batu Lintang station were despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call around 6.15 pm.
A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the caller informed that the fire involved an air conditioner and it had spread to the office space and meeting room.
Upon arriving, the team confirmed that the fire occurred in the meeting room where some shelves and files were destroyed. No structural damages were caused to the office.
The team quickly put out the flames and cleared the smoke.
However, further investigation will be conducted by the fire forensic unit to identify the actual cause of the fire and assess the losses.
