LAWAS: Two blocks of the administration buildings at SMK Lawas, located on Jalan Trusan, were destroyed in a fire late Monday night (Oct 21).

The semi-permanent structures were engulfed in flames as firefighters from the Lawas Fire and Rescue Department responded to an emergency call at 11.36 pm.

The fire crew deployed two streams of water using four nozzles, drawing water from a tanker 1,400 feet away.

A pumping relay system was set up between the tanker and their fire engine to maintain water supply.

Firefighters encountered difficulties due to a lack of accessible water sources near the site, which hampered initial extinguishing efforts.

Despite these challenges, they were able to stretch a 200-foot water stream to the front of the burning buildings and a 300-foot stream to the rear.

As of 1.30 am, firefighters were still conducting overhaul operations to extinguish the fire and assess the damage.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and investigations into the cause of the blaze are expected to follow.
